Our New World and Welcome to It

The last really bad pandemic was around the time of the First World War.   Since then we have had some minor events as well as polio stalking everyone until the 1960's.   That being said, there are not many left that can relate personally to what we are going through currently.   We are really dependent on doctors and learned health care people for our future well being, with the real overall control in the hands of elected officials.   It appears that many elected officials are taking their roles seriously-- Kentucky and NY Governors are really leading the way.  There are other leaders that believe Trump and support his strategy ( fend for yourself) that is getting a lot more people exposed and dead than is necessary.   This makes for a really crazy world--who can manage this mess the best???

An interesting story that came out last night.  The Federal government is basically stealing the PPE that the states have found and sourced.  They have the FBI listening in and monitoring the activities of the states to discover their shipment details and basically steal them and then do not tell anyone where the stuff goes....   Why?  So they can hand it out to the states that lick Trump's shoes and give him the credit for getting us  through this mess.   I just shake my head and wonder how quickly we can get rid of this worthless, self serving leadership in DC and the rest of the country. They could care less about anybody but themselves.

Linda and I are healthy and are just biding our time trying to stay low and limit our exposures.  I still go into the tissue mill a couple days a week, so I get limited  exposure when there.   But, the office staff is reduced by 75% and I limit my visits into the mill proper.

On April 2 we closed on our new house and started the process of moving in.   We were lucky to have real movers to get our house wares and furniture moved in and carried up and down steps.  We have three levels to our new place.   I also had a POD delivered a couple days later with the shed items from Brentwood which includes, Christmas decorations, tools. my track gear, extra building supplies and gobs of miscellaneous.
Outdoor stuff and storage
The POD left today and we will start removing the truck load of empty boxes and packing materials.   And just in case we did not have enough going on, Linda took a rescue dog and they had to accelerate their deliveries and we picked her up on April 4.

Our new neighborhood is very friendly and we have visited with numerous people from the town as they circulate walking dogs or getting some exercise walking the town.  Our next door family let us borrow wifi, since out house was not wired and getting  it was not easy to pull off. Cat dropped off cupcakes the other day to welcome us to the area.  They were yummy.  That was very nice of her during these crazy times to reach out.   The entire town will stop and visit, which we enjoy thoroughly.  There are a lot of young kids in the area and a woman whom is 7.5 months pregnant next door.  This is a scary time to worry about having a baby.    Since the Park is officially closed and you are supposed to stay home, we can meet all the locals with the absence of the tourists  Typically our street would be a line of cars looking for parking on the warm weekends and special events.  Now, the girls next door are riding their bikes up and down without any traffic worries.

Dolly is our new dog  ( 2 years old) and she  is adjusting and is quite timid, scared to death of me and wants badly  to be Raven's buddy.  She loves Linda though. Raven is not impressed and hates the dog.   So Raven lives on the third floor and the dog lives on the second floor.  They are separated by a baby gate and for now, that is how it will work.  I think the cat will come around, but it will take several weeks.
Dolly
We are located across the street from the Harpers Ferry National Park and they have a lot of open space that is very convenient to take the dog for walks and bathroom breaks.   Dolly has keen eye for squirrels and deer-- both  are very prevalent in the park yard.

At our new place are working the crap out of the delivery people for housewares and food.   We moved in 12 days ago and are grinding away getting everything stored away--I am building shelves in the lower level to store our overflow.   Since this house has new guts, it needs  blinds, shower curtains, towel racks, coat hooks, and your basic start up of every new system.  We did get wifi installed yesterday and a land line for outside communication and TV service.   Watching TV is an adventure in ball games that we already know the score and anything else already in the can.... slim pickens for most of us.

How is my training for racing?  Racing is basically cancelled this season and I have not ran in months.  I will need to start from scratch when I do get back into the racing thing.  So for now, I will  carry some extra weight and keep grinding to get the house settled in and adjusted to our tastes.   Kaylee who runs SmartCore in Franklin, TN is doing online classes and I need to hook up on those sessions to get the flexibility back.  She is the new Jack LaLanne leading us in cutting edge work outs.

District Qualifier

Last Saturday the Greater Nashville Senior Games District Qualifier was ran at Brentwood High School Track.  I ran in the 4 sprints and took three gold and a silver medal.  Overall it was great event for me.  I ran in a new class, the 60 to 64 year old class.  I am actually 58, but in Olympian years I am 59 and next year, when they run the state meet for which we qualified, I will be 60 in Olympian years--confused, that is OK.  Kinda messy to figure your Olympian age.   I wore pinks sleeves the first three races because I was chilly after I got sweaty warming up around 8:30 AM.  I also wore the pink sleeves to celebrate those who have battled breast cancer and won.  Breast cancer has got to be an absolutely horrible way to be tortured by cancer.  I posted the picture of my sleeve and medals on Facebook and one of my high school class mates responded that she had been a 10 year survivor--- I nearly cried.  ...

Really Important Information

I participated in the USATF Masters Indoor National meet last weekend in Winston-Salem, NC.   It was good meet for me and I will add the details of the results in another post later this week.  What I want to reflect on here is the quality of people in that building.   I am just so impressed with the high level of competition and caring for each other that goes on for 3 days.  Hug and Cry Area for Awards  There were around 1000 competitors for the event, and with families and officials, generally 500 to 2000 people were in the building during the times the track was open. It was not completely full at JDL Fast Track, but a really good crowd. North Carolina passed some very hateful and just plain repressive legislation a few years back concerning rest room usage and anything that did not meet the "hateful Jesus" religion that they were  promoting.   The NBA pushed back and moved their All Star Game location and I think this may hav...

Setbacks

Setbacks are part of life and we generally have no choice but to accept them in style.  I was in Wisconsin this week presenting some material to a large group of tissue makers.  Normally, you are subjected to hotel food and eating in groups.    I try as much as I can to be strict on my diet due to my garlic allergy and restrictions from gout when traveling.  I must have either goofed up or had something slip by, but I got a major case of food poisoning Monday night.  As I get older, the food poisoning symptoms and reaction becomes more severe and lingers much longer.   I got sick--the messy part- Monday night late and was finished with that deal by Tuesday morning.  But all day Tuesday and into Wednesday my body was trashed.  Tuesday was stay in bed basically all day.  I did leave the hotel twice for visits to the local store for some food and liquids.  Getting out of bed and to the car was a major task and quite le...
