Resting restlessness

I have been resting my running muscles for over a week and I am getting restless.   I have planned to do my first running at speed on July 3, 4 or 5 in the the UP of Michigan. I will do an extensive warm up and stretch and do some 50 meters to get a  feel for the success of my resting, if that goes well, I will do some 200 meters and some 800 meters for fitness.   I think Linda will be manning the clock to be sure the numbers are legitimate.  That will be two weeks of total rest for my left leg,  and HOPEFULLY the rest has helped.

Linda and I are on Holiday this week. Our activities have been a wedding in Green Bay over the weekend, visiting kids this week, as well as trip to Gladstone, MI for some more family events and local July 4 festivities.  We have been eating at our favorite local restaurants and sleeping in ( at least I have been).   It is a leisure lifestyle to say the least, but the restlessness is creping in quickly.  I need to know if any healing actually has occurred.   Three weeks until Nationals.

As far as restaurants--we have been to Angelinas in Green Bay.  We spent some time chatting with Angelina about when she started the restaurant--she was a joy.   Ethopian cusisine last night, which was quite interesting and tasty.    We are really looking forward to Mickey Lu BBQ in Marinette, WI.   These little simple burger are really good and it is a fun  step back in time as well.  I will take two.

I have been watching the Tour de France on the television and it has been helpful in keeping my racing fix satisfied.  The scenery is really fantastic, the racing is very intense, the announcers are quite enjoyable and it is dangerous.    We have not seen the wrecks and carnage yet, but they are hauling ass with no protection against the asphalt and stuff on the road--dogs debris, bad highway,  fans...   That race is brutal and a great show.

A couple more days of rest and hopefully progress.

Really Important Information

I participated in the USATF Masters Indoor National meet last weekend in Winston-Salem, NC.   It was good meet for me and I will add the details of the results in another post later this week.  What I want to reflect on here is the quality of people in that building.   I am just so impressed with the high level of competition and caring for each other that goes on for 3 days.  Hug and Cry Area for Awards  There were around 1000 competitors for the event, and with families and officials, generally 500 to 2000 people were in the building during the times the track was open. It was not completely full at JDL Fast Track, but a really good crowd. North Carolina passed some very hateful and just plain repressive legislation a few years back concerning rest room usage and anything that did not meet the "hateful Jesus" religion that they were  promoting.   The NBA pushed back and moved their All Star Game location and I think this may hav...

First Time Ever?

Things are just a little crazy with the chaos associated with the coronavirus and the global reaction.   Talking with my wife and brother, as well as the rest of the world that will still chat with you, nobody can remember anything quite like this situation.   The crash into the Twin Towers on 9-11 had some elements of the situation, but the total shutdown of sporting events, meetings, global travel and the run on water, sanitizer and toilet paper is just totally new to us.  The Master Indoors meet was cancelled this week, I was not planning on going this year.   I am in the middle of relocation from Nashville to Harper Ferry , West Virginia.  On March 31 we will close on the Brentwood house and close on the new place on April 2.   Getting this into place has been a real battle, but it is going to happen.    We are on our third contract for the Brentwood house and after trying to sell it for 9 or 10 months it will close this ...

Race Day Again

Finally, we get to race again! As many of you know, I was injured last April 4, 2024. I had a disk at L4 vertebra collapse and pinch a nerve in my back that caused over half of my lower leg strenth to disappear. I had a lot of atrophy in my right leg quad and I have been recovering ever since. I am close to 100% on strength and the right leg looks like it is very close to normal size again, but it has been a battle. I have been working in the gym, doing pilates again and also running. All of these things must be done in balance so you can get the proper rest and recover. I still do full body massages every two weeks and I also have been working with a Cox Technique Chiro since the injury on a weekly or biweekly basis. The chiro has gotten me stretched back out and the pressure off the nerve, that treatment has been the real source of healing in my opinion. MY normal doctor was not any help, but this is not what normal doctors do--naturally healing. The first meet of 202...
